Destiny Mobile in Development

Fancy a Destiny on mobile? Your wish may soon come true as Bungie is currently working on a mobile FPS in collaboration with the studio NetEase. Let's find out what's in store for the first mobile game in the Destiny license and the history of the studio behind the Halo license.

Bungie' History

Before we discuss a potential Destiny mobile release, let's review the studio's past accomplishments. As a reminder, Bungie first made headlines with the Halo games, even though the firm is currently best known for the Destiny series. Initially independent, Bungie was later acquired by Microsoft, Activision Blizzard, and then restored its independence while holding on to its license rights.

At the beginning of 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment paid 3.6 billion dollars to acquire the studio. However, Bungie retains total freedom of creation, but also of publication. Beyond these acquisitions, it is an investment dating from 2018 that interests us today. Indeed, a few years ago, NetEase became a minority shareholder of Bungie by injecting $100 million.

Destiny Mobile is in Development

At the time of this investment from one of the giants of mobile gaming, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons highlighted the studio's desire to explore new directions and build new worlds. Regarding new worlds, we know that Bungie is working on a new PvP-oriented license. As for new directions, we've just learned via the LinkedIn profile of a NetEase employee that a yet-to-be-announced Destiny mobile FPS is in development.

According to The Game Post, this Destiny mobile game would not be a simple port, but a brand new adventure. Moreover, it seems that Bungie is taking the opportunity to present its new mobile game engine, which it has been working on for the past two years.

That's it for information about the first game in the Destiny franchise on mobile. While the current success of mobile FPS's is no longer in question, the game will have some competition. The studio will need to deliver a quality experience if it is to succeed between established titles such as COD Mobile, PUBG Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile but also upcoming games such as Battlefield Mobile or Rainbow Six Mobile.
